Blessed with a rich tenor and thrilling top notes, Newfoundland tenor David Pomeroy has caught the attention of artistic directors all over the world.
The Canadian tenor recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann under the baton of James Levine. David had previously sung the role of Faust at the “Met in the Parks” Concerts with the same company. Other credits include the cover of Romeo at the Met, Alfredo in La Traviata in Toronto, Macduff in Macbeth in Edmonton, Don Jose in Carmen in Ireland, Stuttgart, Victoria, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Kansas City. He sang Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in St. Louis, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Connecticut, Detroit, Quebec and Toronto. With Pacific Opera Victoria David performed the Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Rodolfo in La Boheme, the title of Idomeneo and Don Jose in Carmen. He sang Ladislov in The Two Widows by Smetena as part of the Edinburgh Festival with Scottish Opera, Ruggero in La Rondine with Michigan Opera, Skuratov in From the House of the Dead with The Canadian Opera Company and Il Duca in Rigoletto in Calgary and Kansas City. He created the Role of Stefano in the world premiere of Filumena with Calgary Opera and has performed remounts in Banff, Ottawa and Edmonton. Filumena was filmed and is available on DVD.
Mr.Pomeroy has been a soloist with all of the major orchestras and choral companies throughout Canada. His discography includes Sam Jarvis Jr. in Serinette,the title role in The Death of Enkidu both by Harry Somers for Soundstreams Canada on the Centrediscs label and Henze’s Venus and Adonis at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam for Vara Radio with the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
Last season Mr. Pomeroy covered “Opening Night at The Met” with The Metropolitan Opera, reprised the role of Ladislov in The Two Widows with Scottish Opera, sang Don Jose in Carmen with Vancouver Opera, Rodolfo in La Boheme with The Canadian Opera Company and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Michigan Opera Theatre.
2009/2010 highlights included Pinkerton with The Canadian Opera Company, a noon hour recital in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, the title in Les Contes d’ Hoffmann with The MET, New Years Eve Gala at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Cavaradossi in Tosca with Opera de Montreal, Florida Grand Opera Gala, Duke in Rigoletto with Lyric Opera of Kansas City and Don Jose in Carmen with Manitoba Opera and Staatsoper Stuttgart.
2010/2011 appearances include Il Duca in Rigoletto with L’Opera de Montreal, Edgardo(role debut) in Lucia di Lammermoor with Calgary Opera, Manitoba Opera Gala, Messiah with the Regina Symphony, the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Florida Grand Opera, Alfredo in La Traviata with Vancouver Opera and the cover of Romeo with The Metropolitan Opera. Future 11/12 appearances include Don Jose in Carmen with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Faust with the MET and Hoffmann in Toronto with the Canadian Opera Co.
